The purpose of this position is to conduct assigned fire inspections, and fire prevention education programs.Conducts inspections for the purpose of correcting hazards. If necessary, issues citations for Fire Code/City Ordinance violations. Observes and witnesses testing of fire protection equipment, systems and components for code compliance. Assists operations with various types of alarm and/or suppression equipment malfunctions. Presents fire prevention education and public relation programs.Associates Degree or minimum of 60 college hours is required. Bachelor's Degree is preferred.<br><br><span style="color: inherit;font-style: normal;text-indent: 0.0px;">Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, drug and alcohol test and motor vehicle review.</span> Knowledge of fire system design (alarms, extinguishers, sprinklers), fire codes, City Ordinances, Federal, State and local laws pertaining to fire prevention. Knowledge of fire suppression methods, techniques and equipment; good knowledge of hazardous materials.<br><br>Ability to analyze problems and offer effective solutions.<br><br>Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Skill in communicating effectively with management, co-workers and the general public; skill in analysis and problem solving; skill in discerning from a number of alternatives the best/most appropriate course of action; skill in organization of work and implementation/execution of programs and events.<br><br>Performs related duties as required.<br><br><strong><u>Special Requirements:</u></strong><br>Mobility within an office and field environment.<br><br>This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.<br><strong><u><br>Licenses and Certificates:</u></strong><br>Valid class “C” driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed<br><br>Certified as a Basic Fire Inspector by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.<br><br><strong><u>Work Environment:</u></strong><br>Works in climate-controlled office environment but is exposed to weather conditions and hazards associated with structures damaged by fire during investigations. Physical demands require medium physical effort exerting 20-50 lbs. with frequent lifting 10-25 lbs.
