Quality Assurance Engineer

Auto Import

About the Role The Kayaaku POS team builds and operates payment acceptance infrastructure — from the Kayaaku Android POS application to integrations with vending machines and third-party payment terminals. As the sole QA Engineer embedded within this team, you will be the last line of defence before software and hardware integrations reach our partners and end users.

This is a role for someone who takes genuine ownership of quality — not someone who waits to be told what to test.

What Success Looks Like In the first 3 months, you will have mapped the full test coverage of the Kayaaku Android POS app, identified gaps in existing test cases, and established a reliable regression baseline that the team can depend on before every release.

Within 6 months, partner integrations — including vending machine connectivity — ship with structured integration test evidence. Defects are caught before they reach the partner, not after. When an integration goes wrong, the team has clear test artefacts to trace exactly where the failure occurred.

At the one-year mark, third-party terminal certification requests are handled end-to-end with confidence. You will own the certification test process: preparing test environments, executing test cases against our payment rail, documenting results, and coordinating sign-off — with minimal hand-holding from the team lead.

The Problems You'll Solve

  • Release confidence is inconsistent. The team needs someone who builds and maintains repeatable test cycles so that every release — however small — is backed by evidence, not assumption.
  • Hardware integrations are unpredictable. Vending machines and third-party terminals behave differently across vendors and environments. You'll develop the instinct to anticipate where integrations break and test for it proactively.
  • Defects surface too late. You will shift quality left — catching issues during development, not after deployment to a partner site.
What You Bring You don't need to come in knowing payment systems — but you do need to be the kind of person who reads documentation thoroughly, asks precise questions, and can reason through how a system should behave before putting hands on a device.
  • Specifically, we're looking for someone who:
  • Has a strong technical foundation — comfortable working with Android devices, reading API responses, understanding request/response flows, and troubleshooting hardware behaviour at a basic level
  • Writes clear, structured test cases and defect reports that engineers can act on immediately
  • Is meticulous without being slow — able to prioritise what needs to be tested given time and release pressure
  • Communicates proactively when something looks wrong, even if they're not 100% sure yet
  • Prior experience in payments or fintech is a plus, but curiosity and rigour will take you far here
Why This Role You will have real scope from day one — this is not a shadow role. The quality of what the Kayaaku POS team ships is directly shaped by what you find and what you don't. If you want to grow quickly in a domain where the stakes are real (payments, hardware, regulated environment), this is the right place to start.
