We lead by example, move fast, make data-aware decisions, and continuously push for more- always with a focus on delivering real value to customers.You would be joining a world-class team that combines deep research expertise and real-world product execution, with experience spanning Deepmind, Google, Amazon, Miro, Elise AI, IBM and Accern.Position Summary:We are hiring a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable backend systems that power Wand.This is a hands-on engineering role focused on developing reliable, high-performance services and APIs that support complex product capabilities and large-scale customer environments.Role Responsibilities:<ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li>Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.</li><li>Develop high-performance distributed systems using languages such as Java or Golang.</li><li>Design backend architectures that support high availability, scalability, and resilience.</li><li>Collaborate closely with product, frontend, platform, and data teams to deliver end-to-end product capabilities.</li><li>Design and optimise data access patterns across relational and distributed data stores.</li><li>Contribute to service decomposition and microservices architecture where appropriate.</li><li>Build backend services that integrate with complex enterprise environments and external systems.</li><li>Ensure backend systems meet enterprise-grade performance, security, and reliability standards.</li><li>Participate in architectural design discussions and contribute to long-term platform evolution.</li><li>Implement strong testing strategies including unit, integration, and performance testing.</li><li>Improve system observability through logging, metrics, and tracing.</li><li>Support production services, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to incident response when required.</li><li>Optimise backend performance, scalability, and system efficiency.</li><li>Contribute to CI/CD pipelines to support safe, automated, and repeatable deployments.</li><li>Maintain strong technical documentation for services and architecture.</li></ul>Key Requirements:<ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li>Strong hands-on experience in backend software engineering roles building production systems.</li><li>Extensive experience developing backend services in Java or Golang.</li><li>Experience building scalable, high-availability distributed systems.</li><li>Strong understanding of backend architecture patterns including microservices and service-oriented design.</li><li>Experience designing and building RESTful or gRPC APIs.</li><li>Experience working with relational databases and distributed data systems.</li><li>Experience building systems for enterprise software, SaaS platforms, or software vendors.</li><li>Strong understanding of system performance, scalability, and reliability engineering principles.</li><li>Experience building and operating services in cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.</li><li>Experience with containerised environments and modern development workflows.</li><li>Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills in complex production environments.</li><li>Experience contributing to CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.</li><li>Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and infrastructure teams.</li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</li></ul>Preferred Experience:<ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li>Experience in large-scale global B2B/B2C products.</li><li>Experience building backend services for high-volume, multi-tenant systems.</li><li>Experience with Kubernetes-based platforms and container orchestration.</li><li>Experience designing systems that integrate with enterprise customer environments.</li><li>Experience supporting systems deployed within customer VPCs or private environments.</li><li>Experience working with event-driven architectures and messaging systems.</li><li>Experience working in organisations scaling rapidly in product and customer growth.</li><li>Experience working with AI-driven or data-intensive products.</li></ul>Personal Characteristics:<ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li>Strong ownership mentality and accountability for system quality and outcomes.</li><li>Pragmatic problem solver who balances technical excellence with delivery.</li><li>Comfortable working in complex systems and navigating ambiguity.</li><li>Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams.</li><li>Strong curiosity and commitment to continuous learning and improvement.</li><li>Ability to influence engineering standards and best practices.</li></ul>
