Job DetailsFusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) - Microbiology for a 13-13 week travel assignment in Greenbrae, California. Required Qualifications:
- One year of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) specializing in microbiology
- Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations
- National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB, HEW certifications
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- M (ASCP) Certification
- Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
Essential Work Functions:
- Conduct and interpret microbiological testing on various patient specimens, including blood, urine, sputum, wound swabs, and cerebrospinal fluid
- Identify and classify microorganisms using culture, microscopy, biochemical assays, and molecular techniques
- Perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing to guide appropriate antibiotic therapy
- Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, including automated culture analyzers and PCR instruments
- Follow strict biosafety protocols when handling infectious agents
- Interpret and report laboratory findings accurately and in a timely manner to healthcare providers
- Collaborate with infection control teams to detect and track hospital-acquired infections and antimicrobial resistance patterns
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, and CDC guidelines
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, including quality control documentation and patient reports
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
- The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Physical Abilities - Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
- Interpersonal Skills - Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
- Technical/Motor Skills - Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
- Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
